This old Volvo with chassis number 41413 was first sold by the local
Volvo dealer in Växjö, Sweden, Axel Davidson
Bil AB. The first owner used the car until 1961 and the second owner to 1974.
In 1975 my father bought the car from its third owner. In 1981, when I was 15, he left the car to me.
When I started the restoration in 1983, the car had not been running for nine years. The wheels and the engine had stuck but the body, the crome and the interior was still in very good condition. I changed the engine to a better but still used B4b, restored the brakes and fitted a new exhaust system. The restoration went on with the bodywork which needed just minor welding and new rear fenders. I also had the one piece rear window replaced by the original split windows the car had had from the beginning. My car had been modernized, probably already in the fifties. When the 1954 model of PV 444 was presented it had a one piece window. In the spring of 1984 the paint job was done. In August that year I got my desired drivers licence and a few months later my Volvo 444 ES was out running for the first time in ten years! | |
